Ancient Greek Amphora
High-Fidelity Scan
Using structured light scanning, the amphora’s full form was captured non-invasively, resolving surface detail down to a 0.2 mm mesh resolution with 0.050 mm accuracy. Multiple scan passes captured the vessel from every angle to eliminate blind spots around its curved body and narrow neck, then aligned into a single watertight mesh. A 200 dpi color texture pass was layered onto that geometry, preserving the artifact’s true surface coloration, glaze wear, and mineral staining alongside its exact physical form, producing a digital record faithful enough to stand in for the object itself.
The completed scan delivers a sub-millimeter-accurate 3D model with full-color texture mapping, an exact digital counterpart to the physical amphora. That file can be measured, sectioned, or 3D printed at true scale, giving a permanent reference that exists independently of the object’s future condition, location, or handling.
Every fragile object carries its own story, and part of our work is capturing that story without ever touching it more than necessary. A scan like this becomes more than documentation. It can support a museum’s loan agreements and insurance records, help produce a display-quality replica, or simply give a private collector a permanent, precise record of a piece too irreplaceable to risk handling twice.
